About BarLink
BarLink turns long URLs into short ones. That part isn't novel — plenty of tools do it. What's different is how little you have to do to get there.
How the address-bar trick works
Every shortener asks you to leave the page you're on, find the shortener, paste your URL, and copy the result. BarLink skips all four steps. When you're looking at a page you want to share:

Click into the address bar and press Home to jump to the start.

Type barlink.tech/ directly in front of the https://.

Press Enter. You land on BarLink with the short link already made.
The whole URL you were on becomes the path of a BarLink request, and BarLink reads it back out. No extension to install, nothing to sign up for, and it works in any browser on any device.
What an account adds
Shortening works without one. Signing in attaches links to you so you can come back to them:
- Click analytics — totals, unique visitors, countries, referrers, devices, browsers
- Downloadable QR codes for print and packaging
- Custom aliases you can rename later
- Tags and search across your links
- Scheduling, expiry dates, and password protection
Links made while signed out still work forever — they're just unmanaged, because nothing ties them to an account.
Custom aliases
Instead of a random six-character code you can ask for a specific address: 4–30 characters, lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores, not starting or ending with a symbol. A handful of words are reserved because they're real pages on this site.
The honest limitations
- Deleting a link is permanent, and the address stops working immediately.
- Renaming a link breaks the old address — anyone still using it gets a not-found page.
- Approximate location on a click comes from a third-party IP lookup and is best-effort.
